Programs

Programs cover a wide range of topics including shell classification, marine ecology, research projects, field trip reports and shell-related arts and crafts.  These programs are presented by invited guests and members of the Society.

Auction

An annual auction is held in March.  Funds derived support an education grant to students working in malacology, donations to the Malacology Department of the Houston Museum of Natural Science, and the publication of The Epitonium.

Activities

Society members are involved in presenting programs to organizations, local schools, and other shell clubs.  Members exhibit shell displays at libraries, shopping malls, and other public venues.  Several members enjoy participating in competitive shell shows resulting in many prizes, including some national awards.

HCS bylaws are available for view by the public by clicking on this link: BYLAWS.

Field Trips

The Society sponsors field trips each year.  One-day and weekend trips have been taken to Galveston, Port Aransas, Florida and Padre Island.  Longer trips have been made to Cozumel, Belize, Baja, Costa Rica and the Bahamas.  Unofficial field trips sometimes occur when members host social gatherings.  Visitors are welcome to attend the meetings and the field trips.

Publications

Members receive The Epitonium, the Society's official newsletter.

The Texas Conchologist is a widely recognized malacological publication first published in September, 1964.  The Texas Conchologist ceased publication in December, 2004.

Scientific publications and articles of interest to conchologists can be found on HCS's Publications page.
